How to Change Deviation Alarm to Absolute Value Alarm on TC5 Temperature Controller

Learn how to switch the TC5 temperature controller from deviation alarm to absolute high alarm mode. This guide includes step-by-step instructions and a video demo.

The TC5 series temperature controller offers flexible alarm configuration for both deviation-based and absolute-value-based upper/lower limit alerts. In many industrial settings, engineers may prefer to switch from deviation (offset-based) alarms to absolute value alarms for more precise and intuitive monitoring.

In this guide, we'll walk you through the steps to change the upper deviation alarm (Ad1) into an absolute value high alarm on the TC5 controller.

Why Use Absolute Alarms?

Absolute alarms allow you to set a fixed value—for example, 180°C—as your alarm threshold, regardless of the set temperature (SV). This is often required in critical applications like:

  • Heat press machines
  • Incubation systems
  • Oven and furnace protection
  • Industrial sealing processes

Configuration Steps

1. Enter Parameter Setting Mode:
Hold the SET button for 3 seconds until P-1 menu appear.

2. Press ▲ to enter into the P-2 menu and Find Alarm Type Parameter (Ad1):

  • Scroll to parameter Ad1 using ▲▼ keys.

3.Change Value from 1 to 5:

  • 1 = Deviation alarm (relative to SV)
  • 5 = Absolute value alarm (fixed)

4. Confirm & Exit:
Press SET to save and hold it for 3 seconds to return to the main screen.

Notes:

  • Ensure alarm output wiring is correctly connected to external buzzers or relays.
  • When using absolute alarms, double-check your input sensor type and range settings.

Benefits of TC5 Alarm Flexibility

  • Switch between deviation and absolute alarms
  • Supports audible and visual alarm outputs
  • Easy menu navigation
  • Supports multiple sensor types (K, J, PT100, etc.)
