Pulse-Triggered SCR Power Modules

SCR power modules driven by the pulse trigger signal of an external heating controller.

SSR Heat Sinks & Accessories

Matched aluminium heat sinks for solid state relays and SCR power modules, selected according to load current, duty cycle and cabinet cooling conditions.

How to select — Solid State Relays & SCR Power Modules

1. Phase and supply voltage

Single phase units suit 220V heaters, sealing bars and small ovens; three phase units suit 380V/415V furnace banks and large dryers. Confirm the supply voltage and whether the load is star or delta connected — the regulator rating must match line voltage, not element voltage.

2. Load current with derating

Size the regulator at 1.5–2× the steady-state load current. Resistive heaters draw a cold-inrush of roughly 1.5×; silicon carbide and molybdenum disilicide elements can draw 3–8× and need a current-limited model.

3. Load type

Nichrome and stainless resistive elements work with any firing mode. Transformer-coupled loads, SiC and MoSi2 elements require phase-angle control with soft start and current limit to avoid saturation and element cracking.

4. Control signal

Choose 4–20mA or 0–10V for PLC and PID controller outputs, 0–5V for analogue instruments, or a manual 4.7k potentiometer for standalone panels. Match the regulator input to the PID controller's linear output card.

5. Firing mode

Phase-angle control gives smooth, continuous power for fast-response and transformer loads. Zero-cross (cycle burst) control reduces electrical noise and suits slow thermal masses such as ovens and tanks.

6. Cooling and protection

Use a properly sized heat sink and thermal compound. Required cooling depends on the actual load current, ambient temperature, duty cycle, enclosure ventilation and heat-sink thermal resistance. Apply appropriate derating. Forced-air cooling may be required for high-current or continuous-duty operation. Add fast-acting semiconductor fuses (aR class) and allow cabinet ventilation.

Industrial applications

Industrial ovens and dryers

Three phase regulators paired with a PID controller and K-type thermocouple hold curing and drying chambers within ±1°C.

Plastic extrusion and injection machinery

Zone-by-zone barrel heating with single phase regulators, replacing contactor switching to extend heater life.

Heat treatment and melting furnaces

Phase-angle units with soft start and current limit drive SiC and MoSi2 elements and furnace transformers.

Packaging and sealing machines

Compact single phase regulators give stable, flicker-free sealing bar temperature at high cycle rates.

Glass, ceramic and laboratory kilns

Smooth ramp and soak control that mechanical contactors cannot provide.

Boilers, tanks and process heating

4–20mA controlled regulators integrate directly into DCS and PLC loops.

Buyer questions

SCR power regulator vs TRIAC regulator — which should I use?

A TRIAC is a single bidirectional device, normally used below about 40A on 220V single phase resistive loads; it is cheaper but has lower surge withstand (I²t) and poorer dv/dt immunity. An SCR (thyristor) regulator uses two anti-parallel thyristors or a thyristor module, handles far higher inrush and continuous current, supports three phase and 500A ratings, and works with transformer, SiC and MoSi2 loads. Use TRIAC for small, steady heaters; use SCR for anything above roughly 40A, three phase, high inrush or continuous duty.

Is a thyristor module the same as an SCR voltage regulator?

No. A thyristor module (for example MTC or SKKT types) is just the power semiconductor — it needs an external firing/trigger board, heat sink and protection. An SCR voltage regulator is the complete assembly: thyristors, trigger circuit, 4–20mA / 0–10V / potentiometer input, soft start and current limit. We supply the complete regulators.

SCR voltage regulator or solid state relay?

An SSR switches fully on or off. An SCR voltage regulator modulates output power continuously from 0–100%, which is required for precise, low-overshoot heating and for transformer or SiC loads.

Which model fits my application?

Single phase 10–100A for sealing bars, small ovens and extruder zones; single phase 100–200A for large 220V heater banks; three phase 40–200A for 380V/415V oven and dryer banks; three phase 200–500A with phase-angle, soft start and current limit for furnaces, SiC/MoSi2 elements and transformer-coupled loads.

What current rating should I order?

Take the load current (kW ÷ voltage, or kW ÷ (1.732 × line voltage) for three phase) and multiply by 1.5–2 for headroom. Send us the load details and we confirm the model before you order.

Do you support OEM and private label?

Yes — custom faceplates, branding, labelling and packaging are available, with mixed-model export shipments and no single-model MOQ walls.
