TC4-W PID Temperature Controller: Panel Data, Outputs and Retrofit Notes

The TC4-W is the 96 × 48mm horizontal member of the TC4 family. It shares the firmware, parameter set and terminal logic of every other TC4 size — only the bezel, cutout and digit layout differ. Ordering data is on the TC4 series product page.

The horizontal format suits control desks and machine fascias where height is limited but width is available; the TC4-H (48 × 96mm) is the same electronics in the vertical orientation.

3. Retrofit checks

• Measure the existing cutout, not the old bezel. 92 × 45mm takes the TC4-W; 45 × 92mm takes the TC4-H.
• Confirm 79mm of clearance behind the panel for the body plus wiring.
• Match the supply: the AC and DC versions are different hardware and cannot be changed later.
• Record the outgoing controller's input type, output type, setpoint limits and PID values before removal.
• Check the output stage of the old unit — a relay-wired panel needs a relay or W output; an SSR-driven panel needs the SSR drive.

4. Commissioning

• Set input type to match the fitted sensor, then confirm the reading rises during heat-up.
• Set output type to match the wiring, and set the control period: 1–2s for SSR, 20s or more for a contactor.
• Set the scale high limit and an absolute high alarm below the machine safe limit.
• Run auto-tune at the working setpoint with the real load; transferring PID values from a different machine rarely holds.
• With RS485, assign a unique address and match baud rate, parity and stop bits across the bus.

5. FAQ

Is the TC4-W functionally different from other TC4 sizes?

No. Inputs, outputs, accuracy and parameters are identical across TC4S, TC4H, TC4W, TC4M and TC4L.

Can a TC4-W replace a 96 × 48mm REX-C410?

The cutout matches at 92 × 45mm, but terminal numbering differs — re-check the wiring against the TC4 terminal diagram before energising.

Does it support Modbus?

Yes, with the RS485 communication option ordered at the same time as the controller.
